Meet our Committee

Cam Lyttle

Chairperson
Pronouns: He/Him

Star Sign: Taurus

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… the return of a Waterford based pride is long overdue. Our community deserves something to rally around, a celebration of where we have come from, and a vehicle to look forward towards where we need to be.

My Favourite place in Waterford is… Lake Coumshingaun on a sunny day, when visibility is good and you can see for miles around. It's a breathtaking spot.

Éadaoin Breathnach

Treasurer

Pronouns: She/Her

Star sign: Libra

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… I want to create more visible places, celebrations and discussions for members of LGBTQ+ community and those who would like to learn more about the community itself.

If I could immediately change one thing for the LGBT community... I would create spaces for people to meet, to learn, to talk and to socialise in entirely safe and comfortable surroundings.

Michelle Byrne

Secretary

Star sign: Cancer

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… I am aware of such a large community in Waterford, a community does not have the visibility and network that it deserves. Many other cities have their visible celebrations/protests and I felt Waterford people needed that space too and after a few conversations over the last year or two I’m glad I can now play a part in that. I hope that the people who have relocated from Waterford, who may attend Pride or LGBTQIA+ events elsewhere, know there is a space they can come back to in their home city now too.

Debbie O' Rourke

Pronouns: She/Her

Star Sign: Aries

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… I believe communities themselves have the power to make changes and if you want something done, you should do it

Do you have a personal LGBT hero?

I'm a big fan of Una Mullaly the irish journalist

If I could immediately change one thing for the LGBT community... I'd end the use of slurs to discriminate against us in schools

Steve Furlong

Pronouns: He/Him

Star Sign: Gemini

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… I think Waterford would benefit hugely from a strong focal point for our local LGBTQIA+ community - and our friends from elsewhere of course. At the moment it's quite scattered here, and we all know the benefits of knowing a great bunch of people who have your back.

If I could immediately change one thing for the LGBT community... it would be for people to just let us be ourselves, whoever and wherever we are.

Janie Kavanagh

Pronouns: She/Her

Star Sign: Cancer

I'm involved in Pride of the Déise because… I want to help recreate safe, fun spaces within our community so we can come together, socialise and celebrate our prideful identity.

My Favourite place in Waterford is… The Rogue Gallery and Studios, I love running a community gallery but I especially love my studio where I get lost in the fun of creation.
